Aloha all! Well, as you can tell I've been a little absent as of late. Life is dealing me with a few new cards and I'm going to be a bit inconsistent for awhile. For the next month or so I'll be mostly absent with a quick update here or there...but having a baby just takes up so much time! :-)
I'll try to get back on track as soon as possible! Looks like more surf filling in this evening with fun WNW surf for a day or so. Then a combo of WNW and SW for chest to shoulder high surf for the next 5-7 days. Weather looks pretty nice with even a day or so of Santa Anas with this next swell. Water seems to have cooled a degree or two but otherwise it's pretty darn nice for spring surf!
Gotta run but thanks for sticking around and I hope everyone gets to enjoy the ocean every day or at least a few times a week!
Stay wet So Cal!!!

More WNW...and SW combo for the weekend!
Super quickie…super
fun surf continues in the chest/shoulder range out of the WNW. Shorter period groundswell but that means
good consistency with a little less punch.
Surf Thurs and Fri then
tapering off Sat with new small SW
swell moving in early Sun to mix
with the WNW swell. Size in the
waist/chest range for this swell. The south holds thru Wed as the WNW backs off.
There looks to be more activity in the southern hemisphere to throw more
fun groundswell our way. About a week or so out. The combo of swells is good news so all
beaches get a little love and more surf for everyone!
Weather wise we’re
looking at high 60s for Thursday and then a significant warm up for Friday and Saturday
with low 80s/high 70s then cooling off again to the high 60s for Easter Sunday
and cooler for the start of the week. We’ll
see some springtime winds for Thursday…and then those Santa Ana offshores kick in Fri and Sat
before returning to our normal cooler onshores for the end of the weekend and
into the work week. Expect some clouds
and then clearing for the weekend with a few more clouds for the first half of
the week. Tides are extreme so they’ll
make a difference in the quality of your session. Water’s nice…mid-60s and it’s April 1st! That’s no joke!
Gotta run but hope
everyone has a Happy Easter! Enjoy the
fun surf, family and friends! And don’t
forget to pick up a piece of garbage after your surf session!

Plenty of SW and NW on the way!!!
Got wax? Cause you’re gonna need it for the upcoming
week of combo swell! We’re already looking
at rising long-period SW swell on the buoys right now. The whole next week will be a combo of both
SW groundswell from what was Tropical Cyclone Pam that wiped Vanuatu off the
map in the South Pacific and some smaller and shorter period WNW swell. Size is on the rise Friday with more of the WNW swell showing but very inconsistent SW
filling in throughout the day. Waves start in the waist/chest high range and
fairly consistent out of the WNW at west and north facing beaches. Saturday
in San Diego will
see much more south with increasing consistency. Look for chest/shoulder high
waves at the better summer breaks and chest high at the west and north facing
spots. OC and LA will see less of the
WNW and more pure S swell. Similar story
for Sunday but with even better
consistency at the south facing spots. Monday sees a bit of bump up for the
south facing spots as the swell peaks all day.
I’ll call HH and HH+ for the best summer spots in SD, OC and LA. Tues still
sees plenty of SW with a bit more new NW. Waves still in the shoulder /HH range
for south spots, and chest/shoulder for the west/north breaks. Wednesday
the S is backing off so more of the WNW in the chest/shoulder range in SD and a
more severe drop off in size for OC/LA with chest high surf. Looks like more S on the way with a few
smaller spurts of WNW in there still.
Fun week of summer surf to kick off April!
Weather is not
typical of our Springtime! We’ll see
another day of heat and sunshine with mild onshore winds by midday. Air temps in the high 70s along the coast
tapering off a little into the mid-70s through the weekend and then back up
again for the first part of next week.
Expect to see some dense fog in the early morning and late evening hours
starting Friday night and thru the weekend.
Not expecting our usual springtime winds so the surf conditions should
be pretty spectacular…if you like glassy sunny waves! Water temps are already incredibly high with
buoy readings in the mid-60s and will most likely go up as the SW swell pushes
more hot water north. We’ve got decent
tidal movement this weekend with mid/late-morning medium lows pushing up to
medium high tides for the early evening hours.
Looks like a great
week of surf and weather! Please
remember we are in a drought so do you part to conserve water!

Small south and small WNW....but sunny!
Meeeeeeeeeeeeelting!
Hot enough for ya today? Saturday
we’re seeing the tail end of some steep SSW swell today and tomorrow. The best summer spots and far north San Diego and Orange
County are still seeing
some fun waves in the waist/chest range while the rest of us see mostly
knee/waist high waves out of the WNW. Sunday things will back off even more from
both directions with knee/waist high surf just about everywhere if you’re
lucky. Monday we get a shot of small WNW across our bow as waves bump up
into the waist high range (remember, I said it was a small WNW). Surf remains about waist high all day and
pretty much dries up for Tuesday and
Wednesday with knee high surf again. Late Wed we’re expecting some longer period SW
swell. Size bumps back up into the waist
high range with north SD and Orange
Counties picking up some
chest high sets throughout Thursday. That swell is joined by a small NW to give most
beaches some chest high surf by the days end.
OC and LA sees steep waist/chest high
S thru Friday while SD sees
more of the small NW with waist/chest high surf to start the day and tapering
off to mostly waist high surf by the end of the day and into Saturday. The Southern Hemi
seems to be dishing out some interesting activity. Most of it is pointed at S. America, New Zealand or
Mainland Mex. It looks like it might be
getting pretty quiet in these parts for awhile.
Hate to say it but
this weather is HOT! We need a boatload…make
that 5 or 10 boatloads of rain but it looks like sunshine is all we have in our
future! There’s lots of high pressure in
our forecast which means sunny skies and hot temperatures and low
humidity. It also means hot offshore
winds. What little surf we will have will at least be fairly clean! Air temps in the mid-80s thru the weekend and
Monday. Expect a bit more moisture to
roll in Monday night and into Tues. That
will bring us some nice cooling as air temps head back into the mid-low 70s
along the coast and slightly lower (low 70s) but still mostly clear skies for
the end of the week and into the weekend.
As we head towards the new moon next weekend the tides will start to get
a bit more extreme.
For the next few
days we’ll see pre-dawn high tides draining out all morning to a near zero or
negative tide midday/early afternoon and then back up for the evening sunset
session. With the tiny surf and minus
tides tidepooling should be really good. Water clarity is also pretty awesome
these days so grabbing a mask and snorkel isn’t out of the question
either! Water temps is in the low
60s. I don’t think it ever dipped below
60s this winter! YOWZA!
Head out and go
for a paddle or swim! Enjoy the ocean
and don’t forget to lather up on the SPF and pick up a piece of trash while you’re
out there! A clean ocean makes for happy
healthy surfers!
Stay wet So Cal!

Lingering S and then kinda small
Alooooooha! Was out of the loop for awhile but I’m back
now! Hope y’all are enjoying the early
SW swell we’re having right now. Summer spots are getting some early fun waves
in the waist/shoulder high range with even some HH sets rolling thru some of
the better summer spots. (WHAT!) Friday
we’ll see waist/chest high waves as that swell fades through the day. More like waist high for Saturday with a hint of NW windswell. Sunday
thru Wednesday morning will be pretty small…knee/waist high combo of
lingering S and NW windswell.
Interesting how active the Southern Hemi
is right now though. The good news is
that we’ll see some new SW swell moving in late Wednesday. This is more like
our typical SW swells with very long period sets so patience will be a
virtue. Waves will pick up Thursday through the day into
waist/chest high range. We’ll still see
some background NW windswell type waves but not much more than abut waist
high. Looks like there’s more activity
in both hemispheres so we’ll keep our fingers crossed that the Northern Hemi isn’t done pumping out some fun waves for
us just yet!
We had a nice bit
of rain the past two weeks but this upcoming week we’re all about sunshine and
light offshore winds as a mild Santa
Ana sets in for the next few days. Expect warm air
temps in the mid to high 70s along the coast with low humidity and calm to
light NE winds. Overnight temps in the
los 50s. Slightly cooler for the work
week but high 60s/low 70s again along the coast. Hardly a cloud in the sky! Some patchy fog by Monday but daytime will
still be clear and sunny until about Wed/Thurs.
We’ve got a gorgeous full moon tonight which is also making for some
fairly large swings in the tides.
Mid-morning high is draining out all day to a near zero foot low tide in
the late afternoon. Water temps are still
really nice and hanging in the low 60s.
Enjoy the lingering
S and maybe just enjoy the sunshine and gorgeous beach weather this upcoming
week!

Some fun surf and then some small wind swell.
Had enough rest? Man,
the surf has been good this winter!
After a little break these past few days we’re looking at a slow start
to Wednesday with knee high surf but
things pick up in the afternoon. A new
west swell fills in through the afternoon with waves picking up into the
waist/chest high range by nightfall. By Thursday morning surf hits the
shoulder/HH range. The swell peaks midday
with HH surf and then starts to back off in the second half of the day. Chest high surf by nightfall and into Friday morning. Swell backs off further thru Friday with
waist high surf for the second half of the day.
Looks like a low pressure system is moving in Saturday and will bring in a little messy waist high wind swell
with it. Sunday looks like more of the same perhaps a little smaller. But of course, the next WNW swell will begin
to fill in overnight but it’ll be a smaller one this time. Surf bumps up through the day Monday with size reaching the chest
high range by late afternoon. Size stays
about the same for Tuesday with a
little better consistency and on into Wed. There’s one more smaller west swell
that looks to show up towards the end of the week. Winter’s not over!
We’ve had some pretty good luck with perfect conditions. That’s going to change a bit this
weekend. There looks to be a few more clouds
with some midday sunshine through the week.
Overnight clouds and fog with daytime temps in the high to mid 60s. Overnight temps in the mid-50s. By Saturday a low pressure system will move
in and we’re looking at a small chance of showers overnight. Things clear up for Sunday with a little
warming trend over the course of the week.
Winds start offshore and become west in the morning. Winds remain calm in the evenings and light westerly
breezes during the day. Winds will turn
out of the south towards the weekend.
Water temps remain in the low 60s.
With Thursday’s new moon we’re going to see some fairly extreme tides
with big high tides in the morning draining out to an extremely low tide by the
late afternoon. Pick your tides wisely…the
morning session will be swamped and tidepooling will be good in the afternoons.
Some fun surf, a little inclement weather and some finicky
tides await us!
Stay wet SoCal!
