Oh boy...more S!

Hola amigos!  Sorry, stepped out for a little breather and wasn’t able to get to a computer to pump out a forecast for y’all til now.  We’ve got a nice but steep S groundswell starting up right now.  It’s super inconsistent seeing as it’s traveling many thousands of miles to get here.  Surf is hitting the waist/chest zone with spots north of O’side are seeing some bigger sets in the shoulder high range as we see that swell fill in Tuesday.  In between we’ll still see some shorter period surf in the waist high zone out of the S but that’s even more steep than the new swell.   Look for that S to stick around for awhile as it peaks Wed with some shoulder high surf and probably some HH sets at the best summer spots.  That swell will fade ever so slowly with waist/chest surf for Thurs and waist high for Friday.  Friday we should also see a hint of short period NW swell which will help the west and north facing beaches with some waist/chest high surf.  The smallest surf looks like Saturday with some knee/waist high surf.  Sunday a new and fairly energetic looking SW swell will start to fill in. This looks to have some very long period surf for Sunday and really pick up Monday and Tuesday.  While this swell is still a ways away we’re hoping for some solid SW groundswell with better angle for more beaches and some HH+ surf.

On top of the SW swell train heading right for our station it looks like the few weeks of S swells has really pushed some warm water our way.  Water temps are in the mid60s already and with more S swell, well, I’m hoping for even warmer water!  The not so good new is that we’re still having some overcast weather with patchy fog tonight with some clearing along the coast and then patch again in the evening.  This pattern’s going to hang out for most of the week with Wed being the warmest (and sunniest) day until the weekend rolls around.  Look for some low 70s most of the week to mid70s (Wed).  Low 70s but more sunshine for the weekend.  More good news…not to much wind in the forecast.  A slight bit of west winds tomorrow afternoon, calm in the late afternoon/evening and early morning and turning out of the SE for Tues and Thurs afternoon.  As we’re coming off that Super Moon Saturday we’re seeing some pretty drained out tides in the early morning with a medium high and light tide push  midday before turning around to a medium low in the late afternoon/evening.

Looks like some fun surf and maybe, dare I say, it’s shaping up to be a nice summer of surf!

Enjoy it!

Ocean notes:

1)       For those of you who might have forgotten it’s Mother’s Day this Sunday. Luckily it’s not too late to get your Mom a little token of your affection.  Peruse through Treehugger’s list of ideas (http://www.treehugger.com/slideshows/culture/green-gift-guide-mothers-day/) or just check out these local gems made of sea glass by a local North County ripper (and Mom!) http://www.wix.com/poppydeanda/goldenpoppydesigns#! .  You can stop off at the airport, Encinitas or Carlsbad if you want to see them in a shop.   Trust me, they’re beautiful and capture a bit of the ocean’s energy in every piece.
2)      If you’re interested in a good read, sometimes quick, sometimes longer, sometime political, sometimes artistic then check out “Jim’s blog”.  It’ll keep you in touch with all that goes on with the ocean.  http://www.surfrider.org/jims-blog
3)      And now for some surf porn…Trestles, south swell…if the term “A-frame” gets your heart beating a little faster then click here.  http://www.surfermag.com/photos/lowers-pro-finals-day/#04c86283d7
4)      And we’ll thank Surfline yet again for providing this delightful collage of gorgeous pics of Mex.  Most of us have been there.  Most of us can tell a few wild stories of “what happened in Mex…” and most of us can’t wait to go back.  http://www.surfline.com/surf-news/best-bet-may-mexico_70018/
