More small surf but great conditions! Happy 2014!

First of all, happy New Year!  I’m finally crawling out from behind the mega-germ I’ve had for two weeks and feel alive enough to stay awake past 8pm and write a surf report!  I hope everyone had a fantastic holiday and even better first week of 2014!  While I was down I witnessed some super fun surf with even better glassy, sunny and warm conditions.

The good news is that we’re in for more of that for the upcoming week…well, smaller surf but warm and clean conditions!  Monday will start off small with knee high waves.  By the end of the day the buoys should start picking up with the first of a few NW swells that are lining up across the North Pacific.  By Tuesday morning we’re looking at slightly bigger waves…waist high by midday and about the same for Wed. Wednesday things change up a little as some WNW wind swell kicks in and a little system drops down from up north.  Thursday should have more waist high wind swell through the day and just a smidge bigger Friday but still mostly in the waist high range. The weekend kicks off with a new and cleaner NW groundswell for Saturday and waist high waves with the occasional chest high wave at the better winter breaks.  This swell peaks overnight or early Sunday morning and then slowly backs off through the day with the next week looking pretty scare in terms of swells.

The weather, while extremely nice compared to the rest of the frozen tundra we call the USA is much too nice to produce swell.  We’re looking at sunny skies for Monday and Tuesday with clouds for Wed and Thurs as a small system stops by.  There’s a slight chance of showers for Thursday but I’m really expecting just some light south winds Wed and Thurs and clouds before things clear up and get warm and sunny again for the weekend.  East winds in the evenings and early mornings Mon and Tues.  Air temps in the low 70s/high 60s to kick off the week, mid to low 60s as that system passes through and then back into the low 70s for the weekend.  We’re coming off those horrendously extreme tides with medium lows first thing in the morning moving to a medium high midday and then back out again for the evening session.  Water temps are in the high 50s but not too bad with the daytime sunny skies.

Small but surfable and warm sunny conditions for most of the week.

Stay wet (and healthy!) San Diego!
