Weather but then some fun surf for the weekend

Hujambo!  (That’s “hello” in Swahili)  Good day to you all.  We’re dancing on waves between storms this week.  We actually had a fairly nice day after the clouds dumped their contents early this morning.  Waves actually surfable at some of the more protected spots this evening.  Not huge but in the waist high range.  We’re looking at some long period SW ground swell over the next day (Thursday) but surf will really only hit the waist high range for this one.  By Friday we’ll see a little combo starting with some NW groundswell but filling in with a higher energy SW groundswell. Surf will pick up by midday from the knee high to waist high range.  We’re looking at the swell to peak early Saturday morning at about waist/chest high.  The good news is that as the storms become history a new long period (think juicy groundswell) WNW will fill in Sunday and the action really gets going.  Look for surf to jump into the HH+ range with this quick moving swell.  OH to kick off the day but peaking early and fading just as quickly as it showed up through the day.  Probably in the chest high range by sunset.  We’ll still see waist high surf for most of Monday and then short lived SW swell for Tuesday with waves in the waist/chest range especially at the better summer spots.  Looks like plenty of activity in both hemispheres with some potentially nice storms brewing down south.  If you’re heading to Mainland Mex or CR look for some nice healthy south swells over the next week.

Of course, rain and wind dominate the springtime line up.  Looks like Thursday will actually be fairly sunny BUT early overnight SW winds and light NW winds will put some texture on the water.  Looks like it’ll be the best conditions all day.  Winds will pickup out of the SW around mid/late morning.    Gusty SW winds all day and then into Thurs night as the next storm system moves in Friday.  Gusty winds and rain Friday…not a lot of rain but just windy with sprinkles here and there all day.  More wind and chances of showers Fri night.  Increasing sunshine for the weekend but cool air temps remain in the high 50s/low 60s.  Things warm up as we head into Monday and Tues with high 60s/low 70s along the coast.  Look for the most water movement from the dawn patrol to the morning negative low and then minimal movement through the day to the late afternoon high.  These S swells are starting to push some warmer water our way…water temps up a hair in the upper 50s.

Looks like a small window of surf in the morning with some lump on it and then we’ll have to wait til Saturday before things start to clean up!

And remember…don’t surf in POO!

Lates,
Mish

Ocean Notes:

1)       Next week is EARTH WEEK so there are lots of Earth hugging events on the calendar for all of us surfers to help give back to Big Momma!  Check out the Reef/Surfrider/Sustainable Surf event at Oceanside on Thursday the 19th.  Bring all your foam to this recycling/beach clean up event and you might just win a surfboard!  For more info click on the poster below or check out this link: http://www.reef.com/guys/featured/reef-redemption  And if you’re wondering about Sustainable Surf click here: http://sustainablesurf.org/

2)      How many old cell phones, lap tops, CTR TVs, and remote controls do YOU have laying around the house or garage?  Well, it’s time to get rid of the…for FREE!!!!  Click here to find out when the next eWaste event is happening near you!  Go on…click here… http://www.recyclesandiego.org/ewaste-erecycling-events/

3)      And since it’s springtime and we’re all planting our gardens and feeling the dirt under our fingernails I thought I’d throw in this link for Composting 101.  unless you eat every single thing that comes out of your fridge or pantry then you should be composting. Your garden will thank you and so will the landfills!  http://www.composting101.com/

4)      Here’s a nice blog article by pro photog Rob Gilley about Mission Beach local (and RIPPAH) Justin Poston. http://www.surfermag.com/features/home-boy/#comment-596047

5)      Chipping ice and snow off the boat before you make it to the lineup doesn’t seem like an ideal surf sesh…until you see the empty lineup and perfect hollow barrels.  http://www.dailysurfvideos.com/videos/north-334

6)      Speaking of frigid waters…how about these slabs in Ireland. Pour a pint and watch in awe!  http://www.grindtv.com/surf/blog/33268/mullaghmore+head+fathoms+left+to+fall/
