Here we go! Diving head first into winter with some left
over SW swell and background new SW swell for Wednesday. You’ll never know it though cause there will be so much
wind, NW wind swell and even RAIN…yes, RAIN making a mess of things. Surf in the thigh/waist high range for Wed
and into Thurs with jumbled NW wind
swell mess. Friday things will clean up and we’ll see a new SW groundswell
showing up with some left over W windswell. This actually looks to be a pretty
fun SW swell with size picking up from waist high in the AM to chest/shoulder
by evening. Swell peaks out Saturday morning
with fun chest/shoulder high surf and some HH sets at the stand out summer spots. Plenty of surf all day and only slightly
tapering off Sunday morning. Back to waist/chest by Sunday evening. Tapering off more Monday with waist high waves and back down to thigh/waist high by
next Tuesday. The good news is that there’s actually more
SW AND NW groundswells on the way!
Weather is in the
news for So Cal this week. Wednesday
looks to be the start of our rainy season.
You all know what that means right?
Said it now…FIRST FLUSH! Chances
of showers starting around 5am and on and off all day. Rain through the early evening (yes, rush
hour) thru about midnight then tapering off until about 4am. It’s not a HUGE amount of rain but we should
see runoff which will wash our homes, cars, lawns and streets of all sorts of chemical
and bacterial crap that will end up in our favorite surf breaks. Try to give it 72 hours to clean up before
jumping in. Of course, with that new SW groundswell peaking Saturday this will
be tough. The good news is that with a lot of swell things will “clean up”
faster. Be smart where you surf. Avoid lagoon mouths and storm drains. It’s gonna be dirty!
The winds will be
a big problem too. We’ll see offshore
winds tonight that will become gusty 10-20mph winds by about 8am and blow out
of the S all day and into Wed night.
Look for winds to taper off Thurs morning but never really calm down
through the day. Friday looks to be much
calmer but we’ll still see some NW winds by late morning and through the day.
Saturday morning looks pretty calm with S winds picking up by late morning. I expect water temps to drop a bit with all
this inclement weather. Hope you enjoyed last weekend because that will be a
distant memory after Wednesday’s weather.
Tides aren’t moving much as we are mid-moon phase. Medium low for the dawn patrol up to a high
tide midday and then back out for a pretty low tide in the late evening.
Looks like some
fun surf coming up after we get a decent rinse to wash the summer dust away!
