Here comes swell!!!!

Greeting Surflings!  Oh the last of the flat spell is upon us.  We’re seeing a small SW for Wed morning with some little knee/waist high waves but a new SW will start to fill in through the day.  By evening it looks like we should see some waist/chest high waves especially at the better summer beaches. Thursday we’ll be seeing more of the waist/chest high waves with a new SW and some combo NW groundswell filling in on top of that. YEAH!!!!  That means waves picking up into the chest/shoulder by evening, inconsistent out of the SW and some fun ones finally for the winter beaches.  By Friday morning we’re looking at waves in the shoulder high range with some outstanding HH surf by midday as the swells peak.  The SW will definitely dominate but hopefully we’ll see some fun peaky swell as it combines with the NW groundswell.  Swell starts to fade Sat but still plenty of fun waves to be had all over the county.  Chest high waves to start the day and back down to waist/chest by nightfall. Sunday will be mostly waist/chest with smaller WNW windswell kicking off the work week on Monday and into Tuesday.  The good news is that is looks like there’s actually more SW groundswell on the way. The models show some favorable activity down south so we should have more SW groundswell on its way!

Ah the weather, the weather…the weather!  The good news is that along the coast it has finally cooled down and isn’t 1000 degrees anymore.  The not so good news is that that marine layer is moving in as it stays uber hot inland and cooler at the coast.  So, we’re looking at patchy and some dense fog over the next few mornings with clearing midday and air temps in the high 60s/low 70s along the coast.  Warming back up into the low 80s and less marine layer for the weekend.  Light SW winds Wed afternoon and light to moderate NW winds by Thursday and through the weekend.  Not much tidal movement at all for the morning sessions with a little high tide push early afternoon and going low for the sunset sessions.  Water temps are in the mid to upper 60s with slightly lower temps south of Pt. Loma and north of Oceanside.  There’s a nice pocket of warm water sitting just off the coast so hopefully this next SW will send it to the coast and warm things up a smidgen for the weekend.

Looking forward to some real surf!
Stay wet San Diego!

Ocean Notes:
1)  Well, it might be old news but unfortunately junk in our oceans is still news.  Check out this video of artists and scientists who went to Alaska to document water pollution…”Into the Gyre”…

2)  We haven’t been getting many waves but Mexico has picked up a few. Check out this sweet video of some Baja “secrets ”…at least someone’s getting some!  I’ll throw on a full suit if I can have a few waves like these!

3)  This one will jump start your urge for surf and travel… Northern Indo…no go buy a ticket!

4)  Here’s a quickie to shed some light on a dark night and reuse those broken solar garden lights that might be sitting in a box somewhere in your garage.  Great idea!

5)  Last but not least…heading to South Africa and have a dune buggy handy?  You might want to check out this perfect left in Angola…well, if you like perfect barrels.  Maybe they’ll even let you name it!  .
